Cornish Music Conference 2008
The 11th of October was a very enjoyable day at the Memorial Hall Lanhydrock. This was the Gorseth Conference and it was a complete success.
Frances Bennett (Merth Barlowenna), Hilary Coleman (Attamyores)
In the morning, Frances Bennett, Merth Barlowenna, Hilary Coleman, Attamyores, and Frank Pickering kept the audience spell-bound for two hours with music, talk, slides and poetry. The topic was a journey through Cornish music and how there has been a revival through a modern approach.
Gary Tregidga/Map Rosevean and his father
After lunch, Gary Tregidga, Map Rosevean told us, with slides and music, the story of the Rescorla Centre, a centre for culture. It was just as interesting, and he continued with an account of the music of the Clay Country and musicians like Wilson Manhire. He was helped by Mike O’Connor, Crowder.
Mike O’Connor, Crowder.
The day ended with music from all these musicians, plus Barbara Griggs, Gary Tregidga’s father Stan, Colin Roberts, Mab Sen Kolomm, and his wife, Alison, and Mark Hawken. John Bennalick, Whethlor Wenna linked the music with very funny stories! We are indebted to Keith and Clarinda Truscott, Canor Plu Golom and Canores Porthysak, and their team for this splendid day.
